ABOUT GRIPE WATER
WHAT IS GRIPE WATER?
- Gripe water is a herbal product containing:
- Terpeneless dill seed oil
- Sodium bicarbonate
- Gripe water is an anti-acid and anti-gas product.
HOW DOES GRIPE WATER WORK?
- Sodium bicarbonate in the gripe water neutralises excess acid in the body.
- Removes trapped air in stomach leading to reduced gas.
HOW LONG DOES GRIPE WATER TAKE TO WORK?
- Usually within 30 minutes to 2 hours of giving, some relief can be observed. Though this can vary depending on the baby and the severity of the condition.
WHO IS GRIPE WATER SUITABLE FOR?
Babies 1-12 months
Who should not take gripe water:
- Under 1 month
- Over 12 months
- If baby has kidney problems
- If baby has liver disease
- If baby has any allergies to any of the ingredients in gripe water (please see below INGREDIENTS section)
HOW TO GIVE GRIPE WATER TO YOUR BABY:
- 1-6 months ONE 5mL spoonful when needed, up to 6 times in 24 hours.
- 7-12 months. TWO 5ml spoonfuls when needed, up to 6 times in 24 hours.
Give during or after a feed.
Try to leave a 2 hour gap between other medicines and gripe water if possible.
Speak to a doctor or pharmacist immediately if gave the baby too much.
IMPORTANT WARNING:
Gripe water should not be used for more than 14 days after it has been opened. After 14 days of opening, please safely discard the rest.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
There are no documented side-effects for gripe water.
However if experience allergic reaction symptoms such as rash, redness, swelling and especially a change in breathing or change in skin colour, to to the hospital or call 999 immediately.
