WHAT IS CIALIS AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Cialis (Tadalafil) is a drug used mainly for erectile dysfunction and enlarged prostates. It can also be used to treat high blood pressure in the lungs. We only provide the service for erectile dysfunction here.

Cialis works by widening the blood vessels leading to your penis, increasing blood flow to the penis allowing easier erections. It stops an enzyme from breaking down the chemicals that allow this blood flow (known as PDE-5 inhibitor).

HOW LONG DOES CIALIS TAKE TO WORK?

Usually within 30-60 minutes of taking.
It will not work without sexual stimulation.

HOW LONG DOES CIALIS LAST FOR?

It can last for up to 36 hours.
You should not take any more than one tablet every 36 hours.

WHO IS CIALIS SUITABLE FOR?

Do NOT take Cialis if:

Under 18
Female
Had a recent heart attack or stroke (especially in the past 3 months)
Seriously low blood pressure (systolic <90)
History of a serious eye condition known as Non-Arteritic Anterior Ischaemic Optic Neuropathy (NAAION) – damage to the optic nerve causing loss of blood flow to the eyes – can result in blindness.
Heart failure
Unstable angina
High blood pressure that is not well controlled
Irregular heartbeat (known as arrhythmia) not well controlled.
If there is great risk from sex or widening of blood vessels
If taking nitrate medications (usually for angina)
If taking riociguat

CAUTION – speak to a doctor or pharmacist before taking if:

Liver impairment – AVOID REGULAR ONCE-DAILY DOSING IN SEVERE IMPAIRMENT
Kidney impairment – AVOID REGULAR ONCE A DAY USE. MAXIMUM 10mg INTERMITTENT IN SEVERE IMPAIRMENT
Deformed penis
Heart disease
History of priapism (prolonged painful erection) or proneness (sickle-cell disease, myeloma, leukaemia)
Left ventricular outflow obstruction

TADALAFIL WITH OTHER MEDICATIONS

Do not take Tadalafil if taking:

Nitrate medications eg: Glyceryl Trinitrate Pump for Angina, Isosorbide (Mono/Di)Nitrate for Angina.

Speak to your doctor or pharmacist if taking:

Blood pressure medications
Medications for prostate enlargement
Antiviral medications
Antifungal medications
Epilepsy medications
Antibiotics
Other erectile dysfunction treatments

OTHER WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS:

Limit or avoid grapefruit juice
Limit alcohol consumption strictly – better to avoid completely as alcohol can increase risk of erectile dysfunction and dizziness especially upon standing up.
Contains lactose – take care if diabetic or lactose intolerant.

SIDE EFFECTS

Most common:

Headaches
Muscle aches and pains
Indigestion

Uncommon:

Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)
Dizziness
Chest pain
Increase or decrease in blood pressure
Vision disorders
Vomiting
Internal bleeding

Rare but potentially serious – seek immediate medical attention:

Fluid retention
Loss of blood flow to the heart – this can lead to heart attack
Memory loss
Blood in ejaculate
Eye bleeding
Prolonged painful erection – known as a priapism
Seizure
Severe skin reaction known as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome
Fainting
Sudden cardiac death (sudden stopping of the heart)
Sudden hearing loss

TADALAFIL ALTERNATIVES

Once-a-day Tadalafil 2.5mg or 5mg for spontaneity
Tadalafil 20mg – increased dose if 10mg dose is ineffective.
Sildenafil – same drug group
Vardenafil
Avanafil
Alprostadil cream/gel – for those who have difficulty swallowing or prefer other methods
